Here's the story on MathGal:

Back in the Day (shortly after the disappearance of Las Vegas' Mickey Dunn), MathGal began college as a Music major. After taking a Physical Science course (a general education requirement), she realized that she very much liked the subject of Science and wanted to take more such classes. The Science courses had Math prerequisites, however, and it was during those studies that she discovered her love of Math.

It's been nearly twenty-five years since MathGal's resulting alphabet soup [Music (AA), Physics Minor, Math (BA,MA)]; in fact, she has not cracked a college level Math text since that time. The Math just can't be taken out of the Gal that easily, though. Whether it's helping her kids with their homework, Sudokus, crosswords, etc., she continues to love solving problems of all kinds. Therefore, it's no surprise that she loves Crime Dramas, CSI most of all. She is impressed with every aspect of its production, and especially loves the subtle, romantic backstory with all its own delightful clues.

MATHGAL’S TIRADE ON AGEISM, a.k.a. "THE AGE THING," a.k.a. "TAT" (You Have Been Warned):

As the so-called “menopause baby” of WWII/Depression Era parents, MathGal has gained a perspective on “The Age Thing” (hereinafter referred to as TAT) that differs from that of many other well meaning folks. Current standings: Dad = 85; Mom = 83; brother = 62; sister = 60; Mom-in-law = 59; I’m 45 (pushing 46); niece = 42; UPS Guy (MathGal’s husband) = 39;…you get the picture.

I was 26 when I started going out with a great (UPS) guy who'd just turned 20. Talk about having to deal with TAT! You wouldn't believe all the negative opinions voiced by many people. Now that we've been married for almost 17 years and have two kids, guess what? NOBODY CARES ABOUT TAT.

When two people are great together and are right for one another, that is what makes them WORK as a couple--not some pigeon-hole "appropriate" age difference. I didn’t listen to the negativity in our case because I knew we had an amazing-beyond-words romance.

One of the most important reasons why I ship GSR is not only because they are an indescribably complex couple who so OBVIOUSLY belong together, but that by virtue of choosing to pursue their romance they have bravely transcended TAT in a beautiful way.

Thanks for listening. -MG
